SALARY: $45,032.00 Annually

Associate's degree in Computer information Technology, Networking, Computer science or related field and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation is required prior to employment.

Evening and weekend work hours may be required.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with Drupal or other content management systems.

Website development, administration, or design experience.

Experience working with Polaris or other library catalog system administration or reporting.

Public library experience

Web accessibility experience.

Position Summary:

This is independent, technical, work providing front-line support for the Alachua County Library District online and cloud-based services.

An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for performing a variety of tasks including troubleshooting, monitoring library applications, and developing a deep understanding of architecture and interoperation of the search interfaces, discovery tools, event software, and content management website. As part of these responsibilities, the employee will follow usability and accessibility best practices, in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508. This includes exploring and comparing different options, recommending and helping to put the best tools in place, and creating and delivering training for staff and the public. This work may include some coding and testing as defined by the manager and specific assigned projects.

Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

Examples of Duties:

Exudes a positive customer service focus.

Maintains and supports all Library District websites, outsourced vendor software, and web application development.

Assists in the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of websites using current web standards (e.g., HTML, CSS).

Modifies user interface and existing software in response to user needs.

Consults with staff for assessing input, processing requirements, and desired outputs, recommending effective use of web tools and modules.

Evaluates, tests, and troubleshoots web interfaces and applications to ensure desired outcomes and operational efficiency.

Assists users and staff with identifying, solving, and resolving software and device-related issues, including those on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and eReader platforms (e.g., Kindles, Nooks, laptops, tablets, iPads).

Serves as a liaison with software vendors to debug, monitor, and resolve operating conflicts.

Provides training and technical support to staff and the public regarding web development, application use, and troubleshooting.

Assists manager with basic analysis and evaluation of usage statistics.

Assists management in developing long and short-range goals and objectives.

Performs related work duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of website operations, maintenance workflows (HTML, CSS), and best practices for supporting content management systems (such as Drupal).

Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in developing and maintaining websites.

Knowledge of and familiarity with web-based technologies and devices, including desktop computers, tablets, smartphones, and eReaders, with an emphasis on troubleshooting and user support.

Knowledge of current web accessibility standards (W3C, Section 508) and practical skills for ensuring accessible digital content, including Word, Excel, and PDF documents.

Ability to effectively prioritize and organize work.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to understand and follow complex oral written instructions with attention to detail.

Ability to train and motivate staff in the use of websites, digital tools, and online services.

Ability to maintain strong collaboration skills to build positive relationships with Library District employees, vendors, and the general public.

Ability to understand, interpret, and align with Library policies, procedures, and goals.

Ability to communicate and uphold policies and procedures through effective communication and enforcement.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while setting up new personal computer systems and/or network servers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus associated with the constant use of computer monitors.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; and use hands to finger, handle or feel.
