Senior Cloud Data Engineer
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Cloud Data Engineer will maintain RealTruck’s data warehouse and ensure data is reliably collected, transformed, stored, and accessible for analytics, reporting, and enterprise decision-making. This position will work closely with BI Analysts, international teams, and key stakeholders to evaluate needs, translate requirements into technical specifications, and ensure scalable, high-quality data solutions. Additionally, this position will mentor junior engineers, fostering technical growth and best practices within the team. The Senior Cloud Data Engineer will also support the development of RealTruck’s reporting views that will enable self-service reporting capabilities in Domo (RealTruck’s BI tool).
CORE FUNCTIONS
Data Warehouse Architecture & Management
- Design, build, and maintain RealTruck’s enterprise Data Warehouse (DW) and associated cloud data environments.
- Develop and update data warehouse schemas, business reporting tables, data dictionaries, and system documentation.
- Architect and implement secure, scalable, and reliable solutions for data storage, retrieval, and long-term data stewardship.
- Evolve data models and structures to support analytics, forecasting, reporting, and business operations globally.
Data Collection, Transformation & Publishing
- Build and optimize large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines using SQL, Python, and cloud services (AWS or GCP).
- Extract, ingest, and unify data from diverse enterprise systems—domestic and international—into the centralized data warehouse.
- Transform raw data into analytics-ready datasets and publish curated reporting tables for BI and self-service environments.
- Create and maintain business reporting views, including datasets and structures for Domo self-service reporting.
- Implement data quality checks, automated validation, and monitoring to ensure accuracy and trustworthiness.
Cross-Functional & International Collaboration
- Partner with domestic and international business stakeholders, analysts, and engineering teams to define data needs, clarify requirements, and deliver high-impact data solutions.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications, process flows, and test plans.
- Coordinate with international business units to harmonize global data standards, ingestion methods, privacy needs, and compliance.
- Support multi-region data governance, standardization, and data availability across time zones.
Application & Pipeline Development
- Develop APIs and complex data pipelines leveraging Python, SQL, Spark, Trifacta Dataprep, and cloud-native services.
- Manage and optimize orchestration tools (e.g., Dataproc, Dataform, Airflow, dbt, Step Functions, Glue, or similar).
- Implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) for scalable deployments and maintain CI/CD workflows for data engineering assets.
Project Planning & Delivery
- Participate in project planning by identifying milestones, deliverables, risks, and resource requirements.
- Track project activities, communicate progress, and ensure timely execution across cross-functional and international teams.
- Support enterprise digital transformation, data modernization, and cloud migration initiatives.
Data Governance, Quality & Security
- Build automated validation frameworks and monitoring mechanisms for pipeline performance, data integrity, and system health.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations, including domestic and global requirements (GDPR, data residency, etc.).
- Partner with security teams to maintain access controls, encryption, and governance best practices.
Leadership, Mentorship & Innovation
- Mentor junior-level engineers through code reviews, technical coaching, and enforcing engineering best practices.
- Promote continuous learning and knowledge-sharing across the Data Engineering and BI organization
- Evaluate emerging tools and technologies to drive innovation, automation, and scalability within RealTruck’s data ecosystem.
- Use an analytical, data-driven mindset to support evolving business needs and deliver actionable insights at speed.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- 7+ years of experience in data engineering with an emphasis on data analytics and reporting is required.
- 7+ years of experience with at least one of the following cloud platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) [preferred] , others.
- 7+ years of experience in SQL, data transformations, statistical analysis, and troubleshooting across more than one Database Platform (Cassandra, MySQL, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Azure SQL Warehouse, etc.).
- 7+ years of experience in the design and build of data extraction, transformation, and loading processes by writing custom data pipelines.
- 7+ years of experience with one or more of the following scripting languages: Python, SQL, Kafka and/or other.
- 7+ years of experience designing and building solutions utilizing various Cloud services such as EC2, S3, EMR, Kinesis, RDS, Redshift/Spectrum, Lambda, Glue, Athena, API gateway, etc.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
- Very strong problem-solving, analytical, logic and reasoning competencies required.
- Advanced experience with SQL, Python, and cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Strong background in data warehouse design, data modeling, and pipeline development.
Hands-on experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Dataform, dbt, etc.) and IaC/CI/CD workflows.
Proven ability to collaborate across global teams and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
Experience with Domo or similar BI/self-service platforms.
Knowledge of Spark, Dataprep/Trifacta, and distributed data processing frameworks.
Familiarity with GDPR, data privacy, and security best practices for multi-region operations.
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) certification - Nice to have.
Travel
Minimal travel is required; less than 5% .

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position is subject to sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involved sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
