FLORIDA YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY
The Florida Youth Challenge Academy’s mission is to provide a highly disciplined and motivational environment, free from outside distractions, which fosters academics, leadership, development, personal growth, self-esteem, and physical fitness for qualifying high school dropouts. The Academy consists of an operational staff and cadre with in-depth military experience, certified instructors from the Clay County School District system, a registered nurse, counselors and recruitment and placement personnel.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- New employees of the Department of Military Affairs are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program.
- The Department of Military Affairs is paid on a monthly basis.
- This position is a Cooperative Agreement position.
- As a CANDIDATE, you may be required to provide documentation (i.e., High School Diploma or Equivalency, College Transcripts, ETC.) to verify meeting these Minimum Qualifications.
- Must be able to pass a Department of Juvenile Justice Background screening/test.
- Must have and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
- Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within six months of employment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent; AND
- Three (3) years of verifiable work experience; AND
- One (1) year of experience working with at risk youth; AND
- A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger “P” and School Bus “S” endorsements are a requirement for this position. (Applicants hired without a CDL License or required endorsements must obtain within 6 months of hire as a condition of employment. Failure to obtain the CDL with endorsements will result in termination of employment.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Military, Corrections or Probation Officer experience.
- Experience conducting (and/or willing to learn) physical training in a Quasi-military style type of environment.
- One (1) year experience working with at-risk youth or troubled youth (ages 16 to 18).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This is a Shift Supervisor position that oversees and supervises the academy’s daily activities, not limited to, including other responsibilities below.
- Supervision of training and development programs for employees and at-risk students at an alternative high school.
- Supervises Cadre and Platoon Sergeants assigning work, reviewing progress, and assessing performance of Cadets.
- Develops and conducts orientation and training of new Cadre ensuring understanding of all programs.
- Confers with Command Sergeant Major, First Sergeant, and Platoon Sergeants to ensure training needs of Cadets and new Cadre employees are being met.
- Conducts counseling and evaluations of academy Platoon Sergeants.
- Evaluates curricula and/or training materials for effectiveness and assurance in meeting Youth Challenge Master Cooperative Agreement compliance.
- Assigns Cadre to conduct training classes. Assists them in obtaining required training materials as required.
- Manages movement of class schedules of Cadets based on needs assessments and roster requirements of Cadets and mission. Ensures 100% Cadet Compliance for accountability, control, custody, and procedural compliance.
- Organizes, develops, and reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), training procedure manuals and guides.
- Attends training to obtain information useful to train staff and to inform management of programs goals.
- Maintains records and evaluate Cadre and Cadets on training activities and program effectiveness. Evaluates grades or scores for compliance of Cadre and Cadets to maintain uniforms and platoons in barracks cleanliness and drill and ceremony.
- Coordinates the certification of individuals completing skills training (i.e., CPR and NVCI).
- Monitors and evaluates Cadre on Expectations on People First.
- Schedules and manages Cadre and Platoon Sergeant work schedules to ensure proper coverage for supervision of Cadets while ensuring strict overtime budget compliance.
- Performs all other duties as deemed necessary by the Commandant of Cadets, the Deputy Director, and/or the Director.
