DSP Overnight
Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in a residential group home setting. DSPs assist individuals with daily living activities, promote independence, and support participation in home and community life. This role requires a compassionate, person-centered approach while ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals served. DSPs may also support individuals with behavioral needs and are expected to follow established behavior support strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Care & Daily Living Support
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, toileting, and meal preparation
- Support individuals in developing independent living skills and routines
- Encourage participation in recreational, social, and community activities
- Provide transportation to appointments and community outings as required
Person-Centered Support
- Implement Individual Service Plans (ISPs) in a respectful and consistent manner
- Promote choice, independence, and dignity in all interactions
- Build positive relationships with individuals served
Behavioral Support
- Follow Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and utilize approved strategies to support individuals with behavioral needs
- Recognize early signs of distress and use de-escalation techniques as trained
- Maintain a calm and supportive approach during challenging situations
- Report behavioral incidents according to agency policy
Health & Safety
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized home environment
- Monitor individuals’ health and report concerns to appropriate staff
- Administer medications as trained and authorized
- Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete daily documentation, including progress notes and incident reports, accurately and on time
- Follow all agency policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain confidentiality and respect individuals’ rights
Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with House Managers, Crisis DSPs, and other team members
- Participate in team meetings and trainings as required
- Support a positive team environment and collaborate to meet individual needs
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not required
- Ability to learn and implement behavior support strategies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in a residential or caregiving setting
- Knowledge of person-centered practices and basic behavior support principles
- Ability to remain patient, dependable, and flexible
Work Expectations:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Willingness to provide hands-on care and support as needed
- Ability to respond appropriately to behavioral or medical situations
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as needed
- Ability to assist individuals with mobility and transfers
