The Division of Habitat & Species Conservation is comprised of six Sections and two offices. This position works within the Wildlife Impact Management Section of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Division of Habitat and Species Conservation.
Minimum qualifications : A high school diploma and 6 years professional experience in a closely related biological field or laboratory program is required. A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field can substitute for four of the 6 years of required experience.
Preferred qualifications : A Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, with 2 years professional experience working in environmental education, human-wildlife conflicts, or similar field. Experience in designing print and digital media for education work. Experience in making documents accessible and ADA compliant.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Demonstrated experience in print media and in web content creation and management;
• Familiarity with Umbraco or similar content management system;
• Familiarity with Canva or similar design software;
• Familiarity with human-wildlife conflict issues;
• Demonstrated skill in excellent customer service;
• Ability to review and edit documents and presentations to agency standards;
• Ability to multi-task and work independently;
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced work environment and adhere to time constraints;
• Ability to generate ideas for public engagement and develop those into action items;
• Ability to engage staff for new web content creation, evaluate operations, troubleshoot issues and develop solutions to improve efficiency;
• Experience working with the public and stakeholders;
• Ability to communicate verbally and in creative, educational and technical writing for various audiences;
• Ability to positively and effectively communicate with stakeholders and colleagues;
• Computer experience (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).

Description of Duties:
The Wildlife Impact Management Section is seeking an energetic and motivated candidate to serve as an Education and Outreach Specialist for the Wildlife Assistance Program. Primary duties will include web content creation and editing to ensure accuracy of online content (most often via Umbraco content management software) for multiple Wildlife Assistance Program related websites, including, but not limited to, MyFWC.com species profile pages; assisting with education and outreach initiatives related to human-wildlife conflict; and coordination with the FWC Office of Information Technology and communications staff for content review. This position will assist with planning and implementing various wildlife conflict outreach and education initiatives including presenting to the public and various stakeholders at outreach events both in person and virtually using Microsoft Teams, Eventbrite, and Facebook Live platforms. Duties include designing and distributing outreach materials, creating physical and digital educational materials including content for social media, newsletters, event flyers, posters, websites, etc., using PowerPoint, Canva or similar platforms, and conducting other outreach projects.
Additional duties will include:
- Coordinating and scheduling regular review and updates of printed materials, digital media, websites
- Leading the development of the Wildlife Assistance Program’s annual report;
- Conducting living with wildlife presentations, pet safety and wildlife hazing trainings in virtual and in-person formats;
- Creating and editing content for education and outreach activities including PowerPoint presentations, workshops, trainings and static displays pertaining to human-wildlife conflict issues;
- Collaborating on timely outreach needs with regional staff for emerging issues;
- Representing the Wildlife Assistance Program at special events and providing public presentations.
- Conducting independent projects designed to further the Wildlife Assistance Program’s Living with Wildlife educational programs;
- Coordinating with staff and maintaining inventory for printed materials and outreach supplies;
- Organizing and maintaining digital files on SharePoint;
- Assisting with review of outreach and publication requests in the Wildlife Assistance Program’s email inbox;
- Ensuring outreach materials meet ADA compliance;
- This position may take on other duties as assigned on special assignments.
