BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts routine, preventive and corrective maintenance on structures and equipment for all areas of the Grove. Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment. Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing tractors, sprayers, mowers, pumps, machines, devices, moving parts, pipes, irrigation and equipment.
Repair and maintenance of electrical low voltage AC / DC apparatuses, equipment and systems. Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments. Participate in the maintenance and operations of the shop; clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties. Complete documentation as needed. Maintain work area clean .Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides support for all equipment and structures at the Grove. Frequently uses various kinds of hand and power tools. Performs maintenance tasks for structures and equipment. Analyze test results, machine error messages and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems. Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery. Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs. Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear. Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions and other testing devices. Operate newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs. Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs. Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment. Study blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery. Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment. Troubleshoots repairs and maintains electrical systems including electric motors, electric controls, radio systems, etc. Installs, troubleshoots and repairs new equipment and systems. Monitors work done by outside contractors for adherence to National Electrical Code Requirements and reports back to supervisor. Maintains appropriate service and repair records. Researches, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies. Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service. May train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Vocational School and/or some college courses. Trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work. Experience: Four years as a licensed, journey-level wireman in a commercial or agriculture job. Five years as a diesel mechanic.
TRAINING, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Five years of increasingly responsible mechanical maintenance work, including diesel mechanic and electrician. Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical apparatuses; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population. Experience in metal fabrication (welding). Ability to complete the following trainings as required: AG equipment operation, lock out tag out, MSDS, ladder safety, in-house OSHA and respirator training.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Participate in Cutrale sponsored training to improve job skills. Participate in quality improvement processes. Function as an informal leader in the areas of safety, health, quality, environmental, honesty, dependability and productivity.
EQUIPMENT
Hardhat, leather gloves, welding gloves, neoprene gloves, chemical resistant gloves, safety glasses, welding hood, dust mask, face shield, non-slip safety shoes, welding equipment (ARC, MIG and TIG), torch cutter, bolt cutters, vice grips, clamps, work benches, circular saw, bandpass saw, jigsaw, hack saw, side grinder, grinder, impact wrench, benders, air tools, drill press, hand drill, crane, hoist, hand truck, electrical and Instrumentation tools and Meters and other equipment as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions will be outside in all types of weather; in open fields, in sunlight, during the hottest parts of the day. Must be able to do work in the heat wearing proper P.P.E (Personal Protective Equipment) during pesticide and herbicide applications. If necessary, could be expected to work in wet, muddy, rainy conditions. Walking and climbing may be required.
Workers may be required to perform labor-intensive work involving prolonged stading or lifting. Must be able to work outdoors and indoors in various temperatures. Ability to lift necessary weight (50lbs-75 lbs on occasion). Abilit to perform physical tasks relating to grounds maintenance. Able to stand, stoop, bend, climb, crawl and kneel for extended periods in uncomfortable positions. Workers will work in hot, cold and sometimes wet conditions.
