Construction Accountant
- Set up new projects in the accounting system, maintaining accurate job cost codes and budget structures.
- Track, review, and allocate project expenses, labor, and materials against budget allowances.
- Prepare project cost-to-complete analyses, WIP (Work in Progress) reports, and variance reports monthly.
- Conduct monthly financial review meetings with Project Managers to analyze job profitability and forecast final costs.
- Prepare and submit progress billings, AIA billing documents (G702/G703), and schedule of values to project owners/clients.
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding client invoices and retainage releases.
- Process subcontractor pay applications and vendor invoices, verifying lien waivers, insurance certificates (COIs), and compliance documents prior to payment disbursement.
- Manage retainage payables and track joint check agreements as needed.
- Reconcile job cost reporting to the General Ledger during month-end and year-end closes.
- Assist with sales tax filings, project audits, and annual financial audits.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal construction tax guidelines and industry regulations.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent working experience).
- Experience: 3–5 years of dedicated accounting experience within the construction, general contracting, or real estate development industries.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 100/300, Procore, Foundation, Quickbooks Contractor Edition, or ComputerEase).
- Technical Knowledge: strong understanding of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, retainage, AIA billing formats, and lien waiver processes.
- Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and clear communication abilities to interface with subcontractors, clients, and internal project teams.
