Food & Beverage / Mess Attendant

The Messroom Attendant’s primary responsibility is to provide excellent food service to the Ship’s Officers and Crew during each meal period in the assigned Messroom. This role also looks after the beverage stations in the messes and ensures sufficient stock of standard items is at hand at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Mess Operations

• Set up all tables according to standards and ensure that linen and silverware are in clean and good condition.
• Maintain the food line so food is always well presented throughout the meal period.
• Restock plates, silverware, condiments and sundry items at the end of each meal period.
• Collect the requisitions from provisions.
• Adhere to the cleaning schedules in place for assigned areas.
• Report maintenance issues to the Crew & Officers Mess Supervisor.
• Ensure all beverage-dispensing machines are clean, sanitized and in good working order.
• Follow Company policy on garbage disposal and segregation.
• Maintain and update all Mess room log books.
• Assist in receiving Mess rooms equipment and monthly inventory.

General

• Can be assigned to work in restaurants and bars during peak time.
• Exceed Resident and Guest expectations in every aspect of personalized service in accordance with Leading Quality Assurance (LQA) standards if assigned to work in restaurants and bars and participate in regular trainings.
• Actively support the goals and objectives for the department and adhere to all new policies and company initiatives as assigned.
• Maintain accurate Time & Attendance Records for each time period worked.
• Ensure all areas are maintained in accordance with Public Health, Safety Management System (SMS) and Safety & Environmental regulations; adhering to Company Policies and procedures as appropriate to the position.
• Execute safety duties as per the Emergency Plan and Station Bill.
• Assist with Ship tours, Zodiac landings, Marina days, Expeditions, and other activities when required.

SKILLS

• Able to read, write and speak fluently in English.
• Diploma in Hotel Management is preferred.
• Minimum of 1-year relevant experience on a luxury cruise ship, private country club or similar, luxury hotel or resort.
• Basic understanding of Public Health standards or HACCP.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS

• Ability to work seven (7) days a week for an extended period, including day or night, weekends and holidays.
• While performing the essential functions of this job, all Crew are required to stand, walk long distances on the Ship and may include the repetitive motion of bending, climbing, going up and down the stairs and lifting up to 23 kilograms.
• All Team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills. All vessel positions require full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency including the lowering of lifeboats.
• Work within different temperature changes – indoors to outdoors.
• Ability to pass STCW safety course.
• Able to live harmoniously in close quarters.
