The Career Placement Specialist is responsible for strategically generating employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. Success in this role requires the ability to analyze and interpret key labor market dynamics and apply them effectively to achieve meaningful placement results. This includes:

  1. Monitoring opportunities and shifts within the local labor market.
  2. Conducting outreach to local employers and chambers to foster mutually beneficial relationships.
  3. Understanding the needs, interests, and employment barriers of participants, along with appropriate intervention strategies.
  4. Aligning labor market opportunities with participants’ skills and goals to create mutually beneficial placements that strengthen the workforce of employer partners, employer partnerships with Arc Broward, and participant economic stability.

The Career Placement Specialist must share Arc Work’s vision that we plan for employment outcomes for all participants we are supporting, regardless of their employment barriers. The principal functions of the position identified shall not be considered as a complete description of all the work requirements and expectations that may be inherent in the position or for the team/department. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and cultivate relationships with employers throughout Broward County to create job placement opportunities for job seekers.
  • Maintain a caseload of job seekers, supporting them through the job development and placement processes.
  • Utilizing technology, participate in the implementation of participants’ Individualized Employment Plans to achieve vocational goals leading to competitive wage employment for all job seekers we are supporting, regardless of their employment barriers. Maintains participant case notes and employer contact information and business relationship notes in SETWorks.
  • Develop a working knowledge and appreciation of the Employment Outcomes Professional approach to job development.
  • Effectively utilize the Problem Solving/Consultative Selling approach consistent with the Employment Outcomes Professional model to create and develop partnerships with potential or existing employers.
  • Meet monthly benchmarks for contacts/prospecting, appointments/needs analysis and placements/selling.
  • Conduct a variety of strategies to interface with potential employers including but not limited to writing and designing relationship building and selling letters, emails and other materials, as needed. Make public sales presentations to small or large groups. Develop collaborative relationships with local businesses. Actively participate in chamber meetings and other workgroups as appropriate. Engage current employers to remain actively involved with Arc Works. Build relationships that provide opportunities for referrals, information exchange, grassroots advocacy, and joint funding efforts. Provide opportunities for job seekers such as paid employment, internships, externships, job shadowing, mentoring, guest presentations, and job site tours.
  • Serve as the liaison and receive telephone calls, emails, or other correspondence from potential employers who express interest in the program.
  • Support interns, volunteers and/or others assigned to making cold calls for job lead identification.
  • In addition to cultivating employer relationships, subscribes to job recruitment websites and conducts ongoing online job searches, as well as makes cold calls/visits to employer sites for the purpose of identifying employment opportunities for job seekers.
  • Develop a rapport and have basic background knowledge of program participants who are in the job development phase of the program to facilitate the most appropriate career match between community employers and job seekers. Conduct worksite analyses for each business account.
  • Consistently execute job duties in a safe and secure manner by supporting risk management initiatives of the agency; utilize safety equipment as required; fully complies with all related health, safety and security SOP’s; respond effectively to emergencies, participate in disaster preparedness; attend all mandatory safety related staff training. Ensure program participants are free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and ensure their rights are maintained at all times.
  • Assist the Arc Educates Program Manager with the paid internship component of the Hospitality Operations training program.
  • Provide on-site, hands-on support to participants throughout the job development and placement processes, especially for the Hospitality Operations trainees, including facilitation of FL Ready to Work material, assistance with resume development, mock interviews, job searches, and support during interviews and onboarding
  • Coordinate employer/community volunteers to conduct mock interviews with the Hospitality Operations trainees.
  • Manage hospitality and culinary arts related job placements and documentation for post-secondary certificate graduates. Assist with job placements for other post-secondary certificate program graduates, as assigned.
  • Collaborate closely with Arc Educates to facilitate job development and placement activities with post-secondary certificate students and graduates. Participate in collaborative meetings regarding student admissions, academic progress, and placement efforts. Help to collect required documentation for accreditation and licensure. Help to facilitate job readiness materials, including FL ready to work, as needed.
  • Assist Arc Works Director and Career Placement Manager with employer partner recognition and stewardship.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Demonstrates professionalism in various workplace and community settings.
  • Efficient presentation, oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and time management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, and Zoom.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, willingness to help others, sensitivity to individuals with disabilities, and excellent teamwork.
  • Ability to work effectively independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be able to receive and follow instructions and feedback.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality, or Sales preferred

Experience: A minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience in sales or a business development-related position, preferably in non-profit, is required.

Rate of Pay

$23.08/hour
