About This Role
Kidde is a world leader in fire and safety products that go into our homes. You might have one of these products, in fact, keeping you safe right now. We are currently looking for an Instrumentation Engineer who can design and build the equipment needed for the precision testing of our fire and CO detection products. In this role, you will also support the maintenance and calibration of our equipment, of our Florida and global sites, in addition to overseeing the Florida facility and its maintenance. You will use a wide variety of skills to keep the lab operational and continuously becoming more efficient and effective. Responsibilities:
- Support the Development, Calibration and Maintenance of our test equipment and maintenance of our Bradenton lab.
 - Design, build and control test lab test equipment and Instruments.
 - Work with the Instrumentation Engineers to incorporate Instruments in new test equipment.
 - Work with the different cross-functional groups at Kidde to understand instrumentation projects needs and timelines; including but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Product Test, Production, Quality and Project Management teams.
 - Communicate the progress of instrumentation projects to the Kidde team and leadership.
 - Lead design reviews for test equipment development.
 - Collaborate with design team and test engineers to verify lab equipment meets testing procedures for fire and gas detection products.
 - Drive tasks closure to meet company and customer goals.
 - Review agency requirements to ensure equipment compliance with agency standards.
 - Support team to become UL WTDP / DAP (witness test data program / data acceptance program).
 - Collaborate with the team and share ideas on process improvement.
 - Ensure that all Kidde test equipment, at all sites, are correlated and produce similar test results.
 - Prioritize continuous improvement initiatives by focusing on the automation of test equipment and improving instrumentation projects processes.
 - Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development to exchange information, ideas and techniques for design of product or processes.
 - Designs major components or portions of a functional system, technically advanced prototypes, and promotional or specific products that develop and improve products and facilitate engineering operations.
 - Creates and presents designs in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR) to ensure effectiveness, viability and quality of designs.
 - Trains, instructs, and provides technical guidance to junior engineers to help them diagnose and solve problems and build technical and professional capabilities.
 - Resolves design problems and makes recommendations to management to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of design activities.
 
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering electrical, electronics, software, mechanical engineering/technology or any related fields.
 - 3+ years of design experience as an Instrumentation or Controls engineer preferably as an instrumentation lab engineer.
 - Must have programming experience with LabView; instrumentation programming preferred.
 - Ability to use hand and powered tools.
 - Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A. without restrictions.
 - The position requires up to 10% of travel domestically and internationally.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Worked in the fire and gas industry with knowledge of regulatory standards such as UL268/217/521/2034/EN54.
 - Knowledge of test sensors (ex. Transducers, photo-voltaic cells).
 - Experience building Radio-Frequency RF test set-ups/equipment is highly preferred.
 - Proficiency using digital and analog testing equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
 - Excellent self-task management/prioritization and documentation skills in an R&D or testing lab environment.
 - Understands how to read and interpret schematics, installation sheets, and bill of materials.
 - Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with little to no supervision.
 - Interpersonal skills to work with several departments, including engineering and production.
 - Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
 - General understanding of engineering equipment like soldering irons, hand-held power tools.
 - Expert on Microsoft Office (especially Excel and macros in Excel).

 Compensation and Benefits 
 The base salary range for this role is $121,550 - $143,000. Individuals may also be eligible for an annual performance bonus based on both individual and company’s performance. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience as it relates to the job requirements.
