The Work You Will Do:
Inspection Section Manager and District Six/ Director of Operations/District Maintenance/Districtwide Bridge Inspection & Repair
This position will ensure the safety and compliance of the District’s bridges by overseeing the in-house Bridge Inspection Program. It supervises inspection teams, manages schedules and contracts, ensures adherence to State and Federal guidelines, and reviews inspection quality. The role also supports maintenance recommendations, manages bridge data, and assists with Title VI compliance helping the agency maintain safe, reliable infrastructure.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Supervises staff in the District’s in-house Bridge Inspection Program. Direct the operation of the District’s inspection teams engaged in the inspection of bridges and structures. Establish program priorities and schedules to ensure compliance with State and Federal guidelines. Coordinate with area maintenance engineers for equipment and personnel required for work zone safety during bridge inspection operations. Supervise employees, including communicating with, motivating, training, planning and directing employees’ work. Schedule, direct, coordinate and report bridge safety inspections during natural disaster events including associated costs.
Serves as Confirming Registered Professional Engineer on in-house bridge inspection reports. Review and initial completed inspection reports compiled by inspection teams.
Supervises the management of consultant inspection contracts.
Supervises and/or performs Quality Inspection Reviews and Quality Assurance Reviews on in-house bridge inspection teams to ensure inspections being performed according to Federal and State guidelines.
Assists inspectors in recommending necessary preventative maintenance and emergency repairs. Serve on the Feasible Action Review Committee.
Manages bridge and ancillary structures databases.
Assist the District Title VI Coordinator in monitoring and reporting the Department’s compliance with Title VI and related statutes.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- concepts, terminology and principles of road and bridge design, construction and maintenance, structures components, material properties.
Skills in:
- supervision, bridge management software “PONTIS), reading and interpreting engineering drawings, reading and interpreting design and construction specifications and manuals, safety regulations, communicating technical matters effectively to a diverse audience.
Ability to:
- perform technical engineering inspections of structures, work outside – in traffic & over water, track budgets, analyze structures for deficiencies
Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Chapter 471 F.S.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
- During a declared emergency event, the incumbents will be required to assist the District as needed.
