This Capital Projects Electrical Engineer position is located at our Jupiter West Corporate office and requires 15+ years of nuclear engineering experience. The role involves performing advanced engineering tasks, leading large-scale capital projects, and serving as a technical consultant with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership: Provide technical leadership for large-scale nuclear capital projects, coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, and serve as the primary technical interface with external engineering firms on project development.
- Advanced Engineering: Perform advanced engineering tasks and special projects requiring original concepts and high-level expertise, with a focus on power systems engineering.
- Design & Documentation: Prepare, review, and verify design output documents—including design changes, calculations, specifications, and procurement specifications—for internally developed design changes, ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
- Technical Analysis: Prepare stand-alone electrical calculations and conduct power systems analysis (including load flow, short circuit analysis, arc flash, and coordination studies) using computational tools.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs and modifications adhere to nuclear industry standards and regulations, including 10CFR50.59, ASME codes, seismic qualification, and NSCA/safe shutdown analysis (Appendix R/NFPA 805).
- Problem Solving: Facilitate team problem-solving activities, including conflict resolution, and resolve high-stakes technical challenges with minimal precedence.

- Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Professional Engineer license is preferred and may substitute for the degree requirement).
- Experience: Minimum 15 years of nuclear engineering experience in US nuclear power plants.
- Nuclear-Specific Experience: At least 12 years of collective experience must be specifically in US nuclear facilities (international experience and experience in other industries such as fossil power plants, oil/gas, or transmission/distribution are excluded from this requirement).
- Technical Expertise:
- Extensive knowledge of nuclear industry standards, the nuclear design process, and independent design verification.
- Proficiency with electrical power systems components, including: molded case circuit breakers, motor starters, thermal overloads, low/medium voltage switchgear, industrial battery chargers, inverters/UPS, 125Vdc battery systems, Emergency Diesel Generators (EDGs), transformers, main generators, and voltage regulators.
- Strong background in power systems engineering (this role is not focused on Instrumentation and Control, sensors, analog/digital electronics, or cyber security).
- Core Competencies: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; strong leadership and project management capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Regulatory Analysis: Experience with ladder logic, electrical schematics, NSCA/safe shutdown analysis (Appendix R/NFPA 805).
- Advanced Software Proficiency: Proficiency with power systems analysis computational tools such as ETAP and EDISON .
- Project Experience:
- Background as a cognizant/oversight engineer or in engineering project management.
- Candidates should have more design/project engineering experience than pure project management experience.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with ASME standards, seismic qualification, and regulatory compliance.
- Plant-Specific Knowledge: Experience with NextEra Energy or Florida Power & Light nuclear power plants (Seabrook, Point Beach, St. Lucie, Turkey Point) is highly preferred.
Work Environment & Opportunity
This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned nuclear engineering professional to take on a leadership role with a major energy company. In this position, you will contribute to critical infrastructure projects that support safe and reliable nuclear power generation, working within a collaborative environment at the corporate office.
