Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Adult Day Training (ADT) Program provides structured, person-centered support to adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in a day program setting. This role focuses on skill development, community integration, and meaningful daily activities that promote independence and enhance quality of life. The DSP supports individuals with varying behavioral and support needs, including those who may require additional behavioral guidance, while maintaining a safe, engaging, and respectful environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Skill Development & Program Activities
- Implement Adult Day Training (ADT) programming focused on life skills, social skills, communication, and pre-vocational training
- Facilitate group and individual activities based on participants’ goals and abilities
- Support individuals in developing independence in daily living and community skills
- Encourage engagement in structured activities, including educational, recreational, and vocational tasks
Direct Support & Supervision
- Provide supervision and support throughout program hours to ensure safety and well-being
- Assist with personal care needs as required (e.g., toileting, hygiene, feeding)
- Provide support during meals and ensure dietary needs are followed
- Maintain appropriate staff-to-participant ratios at all times
Behavioral Support
- Implement Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and use positive behavior support strategies
- Recognize early signs of behavioral escalation and apply de-escalation techniques
- Maintain a calm, supportive, and structured environment for all participants
- Accurately report and document behavioral incidents per agency policy
Community Integration
- Support individuals in community-based activities such as outings, volunteer opportunities, and skill-building experiences
- Assist with transportation and ensure safety during off-site activities
- Promote appropriate social interactions and community participation
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete daily service notes, attendance records, and incident reports accurately and on time
- Track progress toward individual goals and report updates to supervisors
- Follow all agency policies, state regulations, and ADT program requirements
Health & Safety
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment
- Monitor participants’ health and report concerns as needed
- Follow all emergency procedures and safety protocols
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with program staff, supervisors, and clinical team members
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and program planning
- Communicate effectively regarding participant needs, progress, and concerns
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
- Ability to facilitate groups and structured activities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in adult day programs or group facilitation
- Knowledge of person-centered practices and positive behavior supports
- Ability to manage multiple participants with varying needs
- Creative and engaging approach to activity planning
Work Expectations:
- Typically scheduled during daytime hours; may include occasional community outings or special events
- Ability to remain active and engaged throughout the program day
- Flexibility to meet participant and program needs
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the day
- Ability to assist with lifting or supporting individuals as needed
